Publishing Principles

PsyTheater Publishing Principles — how topics are selected, verified and labeled

PsyTheater publishes psychology, psychiatry and mental health content according to principles of accuracy, relevance, transparency, editorial independence and reader safety.

These principles explain how we choose topics, label content, use sources and update material. They are designed for readers, sources, experts, advertisers and anyone evaluating PsyTheater as a publisher.

What we publish

  • News: timely developments in psychology, psychiatry, mental health, research, policy or public conversation.
  • Explainers: clear explanations of terms, symptoms, concepts, therapy models and mental health systems.
  • Guides: practical educational resources that help readers ask better questions and understand options.
  • Analysis: context, interpretation and implications of research, trends or public claims.
  • Reviews and comparisons: when published, these must disclose evaluation criteria and commercial relationships where relevant.
  • Sponsored content: paid or partner material must be labeled and separated from independent editorial conclusions.

How we select topics

Story selection is based on relevance to psychology and mental health, reader need, source quality, public interest, usefulness, potential impact and the importance of a topic to the U.S. audience or broader English-speaking readership.

Source-based publishing

PsyTheater prefers primary sources, public research, recognized institutions, clinical guidance, official statements, datasets and direct expert context. Secondary sources may be used for context, but they should not replace stronger sourcing when sensitive claims are involved.

Editorial review

Articles may go through research, drafting, editorial review, headline review, link review and sensitive-claim review. Mental health, medical, legal, safety and crisis-related claims require extra caution and should not be framed as personalized advice.

Content labels

Labels should help readers understand the nature of a piece. News, analysis, opinion, guide, review, sponsored, partner content, press release and update should not be used interchangeably.

Commercial independence

Advertisers and sponsors do not control independent editorial conclusions. Paid visibility does not equal endorsement, and sponsored content must be disclosed in a way that readers can understand.

Corrections and feedback

Readers can report suspected factual errors to [email protected] or send editorial feedback to [email protected].
