Autism is referred to as a mental disorder in which a child loses interest in what is happening around them and experiences a decline in communication skills. This condition is also characterised by frequent repetitive actions.
The main causes of this mental disorder are genetic factors. Other causes are also said to include the mother’s attitude towards the unborn child while it is still in the womb. According to statistics, boys are four times more likely to have autism than girls.
This condition is difficult to treat, so very few children become almost fully integrated members of society by the age of 16. Treatment involves communication with the child, active therapy based on watching films, listening to music, and taking walks in the fresh air.
